Lay Low, Grow High
Four months ago, I made a decision that changed everything: I stopped saying yes to everything and started saying no to almost everything.
Here's what happened when I chose depth over width:
I turned down the noise. Every "quick coffee chat," every "potential collaboration," every "amazing opportunity" that didn't align with my core work—I politely declined. These weren't bad opportunities. They just weren't MY opportunities. The fear of missing out was real, but the cost of distraction was higher.
I doubled down on what matters. Instead of juggling ten different ventures, I chose two: freelance content writing and podcasting. That's it. No side consulting. No random workshops. No "just this once" favors. When clients approached me for ghostwriting projects that aligned with my expertise, I said yes. Everything else got a respectful no.
The results spoke louder than my fears ever could. With laser focus came better work. With better work came delighted clients. With delighted clients came referrals I didn't have to chase. My productivity didn't just improve—it transformed. I was no longer tired from switching contexts. I was energized from doing work that mattered.
The numbers tell the real story. My earnings from the last three months surpassed what I made in the previous ten months combined. Not because I worked more hours. Because I worked on the right things, for the right clients, with the right focus.
The path to growth isn't always about reaching higher. Sometimes it's about digging deeper. While everyone else is spreading themselves thin trying to be everywhere, consider this: What if you became irreplaceable in just one or two areas?
Lay low from the distractions. Grow high in your craft.
