DREAMS, WHICH DO NOT LET ME SLEEP...

Day-dreaming - Dreams which do not let you sleep

Just like everyone else around, I had an amazing childhood and those years spent growing in a loving and caring family and with equally amazing friends were full of fun and happiness with nothing to worry about. Just like everyone else in that age, I used to sleep really well and of course had dreams, which were mostly random situations which I would remember somewhat after waking up and would try to recall the forgotten instances. Just like the other kids in growing age, I wanted to listen to more stories from my parents before sleeping, and would expect to have similar visions in my dreams. Well, as the time passed, this whole scenario of dreams changed.

As I stepped into the teen age, the dreams started fading away from my sleep and the concern for life started taking over the mind. A few years later, stepping out of the teen age and into the youth brigade, there emerged more responsibilities to take care of except the studies and sports and similar personal stuff. Just when I got used to it all, taking care of studies and home-related responsibilities and managing my hobbies along with them, the thoughts of completion of studies in near future and earning livelihood after that started taking over the thoughts of having beautiful dreams before sleeping. Although the whole transition took a lot of years, but time ran so fast that it did not give enough flexibility to realize, accept and absorb the complete change of life. Dreams, then, hardly visited my sleep; perhaps my mind was never relaxed enough to welcome them.

A new definition of dreams then came up for the new lifestyle - dreams of being successful, dreams of choosing the right career, dreams of fetching the desired job position, dreams of earning well, dreams of fulfilling necessities by myself, dreams of being totally self-dependent, dreams of not just existing in the world but living big leaving a mark wherever I go. These dreams of achieving my goals in life would not let me sleep as I used to pen down the footsteps to pursue them accordingly. As time passed, these dreams also kept changing with the varying situations in life. Even those dreams which were fulfilled as desired, were followed by more dreams with higher expectations. Contentment seemed to be a myth then.

Now, after all the running around for years, in a more stable phase of life, I understand the importance of those dreams, irrespective of whether they were achieved or not. Dreams happen to be a consistent driving force in life. They force us to think beyond our capabilities and to achieve those goals which seem next to impossible in our thoughts. Then comes the next two-sided phase - success or failure. Success in achieving those dreams obviously brings joy and motivates to fulfill more unfulfilled desires; failure, on the other hand, brings down the positive energy to some extent but also teaches about the shortcomings and how they can be rectified in future. As is said "winning is earning, losing is learning", the saying is true to the core and is extremely imperative to understand in order to remain positive while following our dreams.

The definition of dreams has changed with time and age. Earlier, dreams were those which I used to see while having a sound sleep. Now, dreams are those which I see with eyes wide open, mind fully active, with high spirits, following a far-sighted approach, bifurcating the path into smaller segments, penning down the necessary steps to fulfill those segments, eventually leading to arrive at the final destination which marks the completion of those dreams. Its been long since I last had a dream during my sleep. I expect the same to happen with every career-oriented individual with tons of responsibilities on their shoulders, but cannot be sure about it of course. However, it won't be an exaggeration of facts to say that dreams do have an immense impact on our lives and thus, are an integral part of our lives and careers. Dreaming about a goal marks the beginning of our chase to achieve it. If we won't dream it, we definitely won't achieve it.

Dreams are not those which we see while sleeping; dreams are those which do not let us sleep. Let's dream big, and give it all that we have, to rise and shine and accomplish what we desire.
